A letter of intent will be greatly appreciated by the person who assumes caregiving responsibility. It will be especially important to the trustee for the special needs trust because it identifies the special needs of the child and how funds should be spent based on your wishes. The SCOR can supplement the letter of intent. Use the letter of intent as a "cover letter" to introduce the alternate caregiver to the individual being cared for. You may of course write a letter of intent without using the SCOR. Select the link to learn more about the parts of a letter of intent.
