A trustee is a named person who manages the trust for the benefit of the person with a disability. In many cases, a family member, the guardian, or someone who is close to the person requiring the trust may be well qualified to manage the funds and do the simple bookkeeping and records that are required. For a fee, professional trustees such as banks or financial managers can be utilized. The trustee is responsible for protecting the trust and deciding how the funds will be used. Managing the trust includes making proper investments, paying bills, keeping accounts, and preparing tax returns, if required.
