If an adult child with a disability has assets over $2,000 (homes are excluded from counting as an asset for benefit qualification), then he or she may lose publically funded benefits, such as Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Medicaid benefits, or may need to pay out of pocket for vocational rehabilitation, subsidized housing, and other benefits based on need. Note: The amount of assets a person can have before losing state or local benefits can vary depending on the state and the source of the benefit.
